The Second Language Learning and Application: The Third Lecture Luncheon

    On the noon of June 2, Professor Chai Mingjiong of Shanghai International Studies University and Professor Hu Zhen, Vice President of the Foreign Language Institute, attended the Qingyu luncheon, which brought wonderful stories and interesting knowledge to the students.

    In the professional knowledge of learning, professor Chai pointed out: The biggest task of language learning in the undergraduate phase is language perfection, students must pay attention to the balance of the oral and written language ability, complement the short board. At the same time, must ask questions to the teacher, discovers the study method is incorrect, must make the adjustment in time.

    Next, based on his own experience as a teacher and translator, Professor Chai introduced the methods of professional translation to the students, and pointed out that we should elevate the language to a high level. The process of being able to use it flexibly and make its contents manifest is called the process of manifest, that is, to make some of the things that are implicit in the culture manifest through translation. Because many people are not clear about our cultural background, what we do in a vague way will result in many people not understanding, and the ultimate goal of our translation is for others to understand. At the same time, in terms of translation skills, we must think about the content of the text from multiple dimensions, such as language, communication and culture, so as to reduce the irrationality and defect of language choice and ensure the integrity and accuracy of translation.

    Regarding overseas exchange and learning, President Hu guided the students to think about which aspects of cultivation or cultural experience they should pay attention to. Professor Chai pointed out that the most important thing in overseas communication is to reach out to the society. Since studying abroad, the students should read more and see more things that can not be contacted and understood at home. Meanwhile, Professor Chai combined his previous studies in the UK to elaborate on the importance of learning methods to his classmates.

    Throughout the luncheon, professor chai and president hu combined the learning and application skills of language with stories in their lives, giving students great inspiration. The students not only mastered the skills of language learning, but also saw the work of professional translators, and expressed that they had benefited a lot.
